Steps to Getting Bettter
By Kansas Guy
The 3 steps to a Perfect Red Season.
The big question going around Kansas City is what can be done to make the Kansas City Chiefs a better football team and reclaim the AFC West in 2012.
It’s just one side of the story, because Bowe (A Pro-Bowler in 2010) had 81 receptions for 1,159 yards and five touchdowns. Last season Bowe led all NFL receivers with 15 touchdowns making the NFL’s list as the 45th best player in in 2010-11 season, getting the most broken tackle award.
It’s no lie to say Bowe is a valuable player. What makes Bowe unique is he’s confident and once that ball is kicked and the game starts nothings stopping Bowe from doing what he does best, catch and score.
Step 2: Adjustments to the offensive line. In the 2012 NFL draft Kansas City needs to draft offensive linemen who block and let Matt Cassel or Kyle Orton depending on which direction the Chiefs go to move in the pocket and complete passes. This is VERY important, that’s why its No. 2 on the list. Last season Cassel, Orton and Tyler Palko were sacked 34 times. Between them and the 500 passes thrown in 15 games 201 of passes attempted were incomplete and 18 interceptions.
To bring in young strong linemen will allow the Chiefs starting quarterback to breathe, move, and think about what he's going to do in the pocket. Result: If the O-line can do their job it means someone like Cassel can do his. We all need time, but a quarterback in the NFL with the best of protection only gets seconds to make his decision and throw.
That's why new coach Jack Bicknell Jr. with New York Giants experience the last three seasons will be a plus for Kansas City and the offensive line.
Step one snap, step two block, step three throw, and step four Mitch Holthus shouting TOUCHDOWN KANSAS CITY!
Effective blocking just isn't for the QB, but the running back too. The O-line creates the gaps and Jamaal Charles does the rest.
Step 3: Get healthy!
Last season was like having your foot ran over, especially the Chiefs first two games losing by 40+ points, but Kansas City also lost players.
Hoping it was just twisted ankles it was hard hearing that top back Charles and 2010 top defender Eric Berry would be out the entire season. The Chiefs season appeared over before it started.
But Romeo Crennel’s ending was much better than Todd Haley’s start. The end result had Kansas City beating the undefeated Green Bay Packers and AFC West champs Denver Broncos.
This season we'll have backups with game experience because of the bad situation in 2011. That’s a bonus. We need top performers Charles, Berry, and Tony Moeaki back healthy. That includes Cassel.
Having those sparks back AND fielding NEW players with RAC and Brian Daboll would do a world of good.
Not the only steps, but my first three in getting KC back into the AFC West and beyond.

I’m going to break it down in three steps and the results if the Chiefs do these actions.
Step 1: The first step to becoming a potential play-off winner is to sign your own free agent wonders like Dwayne Bowe and Brandon Carr. These stars of the National Football League are great on and off the field leaders.
Many fans have split the fence on who should go and who should stay, with a recent poll showing 62 percent wanting Bowe to stay with word of the franchise tag going towards Carr. Last season Carr was tied with Flowers with four picks for Kansas City.
Carr made a case for himself with the eighth most total tackles for Kansas City last season with 45.
Rumor is Carr is asking for more than Brandon Flowers, which is $10M plus a year. Bowe is looking for a deal like Santonio Holmes of the New York Jets ($45M)...the Chiefs have money, but is any of it earmarked for Bowe or Carr?
